Pike County Advanced Life Support, Inc. is a grass roots organization that brings Advanced Life Support in the form of Paramedics to Pike County. PIKE ALS was incorporated in October 2001 and received it’s 501c3 Not-for-profit status in March 2002.

Memorial Weekend 2006, Pike Advanced Life Support, Inc celebrated its 3rd anniversary. Since we started providing paramedic services we have made a significant difference in the lives of many victims of medical emergencies.

Before we started running our paramedic service in Pike County there was only Basic Life Support. What that meant, if you have any type of emergency that required Advanced Life Support, – an asthma attack or heart attack for instance -Paramedics (Advanced Life Support Unit) should have been called to render immediate emergency treatment. Unfortunately, at that time, the closest Paramedic units to Pike County were outside of Pike County. In order for emergency treatment to be rendered, a paramedic had to be requested from neighboring Counties who’s emergency services were already pushed to capacity. Paramedic units are required within 10 minutes of the incident. If no paramedic unit is found, no advanced emergency medical treatment could be rendered, forcing the BLS unit to run with the patient to the closest hospital. The old procedure took away precious treatment time from the patient, and hurt our neighboring Counties, by removing much needed resources out of their areas. When a Paramedic Unit from another area, such as Monroe County, was called to Pike County, the Paramedic Unit was out of service for a minimum of 3 hours, leaving their primary response area uncovered and placing an undue hardship on Monroe County and its residents.
