This module is the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s module to allow an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic with Medical Command Authorization to use a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device while operating with a qualified service. Assessment and management of patients with respiratory emergencies including asthma, COPD and pulmonary edema will be covered. There will be lecture, video and practical skills portions of the course. CPAP devices will be available for practice. Pike County Advanced Life Support has registered this class with the PA DOH for 2.0 medical / trauma credits for Pennsylvania EMTs. This free course will be held at the Delaware Township Volunteer Ambulance Building, 135 Park Road, Dingmans Ferry, PA 18328. Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVOC)

This 16 hour course is suitable for both novice and veteran emergency vehicle operators. This course provides instruction for emergency personnel who may be involved in operating emergency vehicles. Topics included: defensive driving, emergency response, vehicle maintenance, and a driver training obstacle course. This course is sponsored by the Wayne County Fireman’s Association. The classroom portions of the course will be held at the Hawley Fire Department, 17 Columbus Avenue, Hawley, PA 18428. The practical driving skills testing will be conducted at the Wallenpaupack Area High School on Route 6 in Palmyra Township. The course instructors will be Darryl Gebhardt & Joe Marconi. Students must arrange to bring emergency apparatus for the practical skills test. The Emergency Vehicle Driver Training Participant Manual available through VFIS Online Store, www.vfis.com or (800) 233-1957 is required the first night of class. This is a 4.5 hour American Heart Association program is designed to teach healthcare providers the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). Successful course completion is measured through written exam and satisfactory skill performance. All students will receive a student manual.  Course completion cards awarded for successful completion. Preregistration is required. There are no prerequisites for this course. This course is free for DTVAC and PCALS personnel. Fire, EMS, non-profit and government personnel will be charged $55.00. All others will be charged $60.00. Preregistration is required. Suspected Child Abuse & Neglect for Emergency Medical Service Providers

Introduced in 2004, Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Education for Emergency Medical Service Providers (SCAN EMS) is targeted to the nearly 50,000 EMT’s, paramedics and pre-hospital registered nurses in Pennsylvania. This is a three hour continuing education program presented by an EMT Instructor, Emergency Department Nurse/Physician and local Children and Youth worker. SCAN-EMS is an interactive, hands-on educational experience that has been well received by the EMS community. Offered at regional and state conferences as well as on-site for larger EMS groups, SCAN-EMS emphasizes the importance of scene assessment, documentation and teamwork in the recognition and reporting of suspected child abuse. A training packet is provided for each participant.

Highway Safety Seminar

This 3 hour program addresses the several safety and logistical issues commonly associated with emergencies occurring on major highways. The course will cover topics such as: hazard analysis, work zone security, safe work practices, environmental awareness, and command and control techniques for high-risk work areas. This course examines a real life incident, as well as, the lessons learned. This course is sponsored by the Wayne County Fireman’s Association.  This course will be held at the Wayne County Emergency Operations Center (43 Volunteer Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431). The course instructor will be Bill Weimer. There are no prerequisites.
